We are Jared and Bethany Thornton and the family behind Pillar Pines Homestead.
We did not grow up in farming or homesteading families. If we are truthful, it wasn’t even a part of our thought process early in our lives together. Chasing careers in accounting and architecture, we both felt a calling toward something different. It was about 13 years ago we began dreaming about the prospect of owning land and building a different life.

Being called to this lifestyle was only amplified upon welcoming children into our lives. We were called toward the desire to take a step back. To return to an older way of life. To move towards simplicity, connection to land, our food sources and community. To teach our children the art of seemingly lost life skills and to build deep values and roots along the way.

Just a few short years ago we took the leap, purchased our land and began our journey. It has taken us on many adventures already. We packed up our family in three weeks time, sold our home, moved to a rental, began building our new home and ultimately ended up living in our RV for several months on our property while our house build was being completed. Talk about memories!
